Adam. What what are the public needs to know about the meeting place yes mr. president as you're aware on numerous occasions Governor pritzker is declared emergency in the state of Illinois because of the covid-19 and dammit on October 16th and then just as coming in on November 13th he is reaffirm that an emergency in the state of Illinois has been change for open meetings they be held virtually has and also his change some of the requirements at least one of the the superintendent and the either yourself or a board member or the attorney so in this case you got both the superintendent and myself at the district headquarters 2 allow the remainder of the meeting to be held virtually I will also note that the because we are now in tier-1 medication and the 10th a district of Illinois which is Suburban Cook County you can have no more than 10 people in the room I know that we don't have time people but I know that was also placement publicly as well so for those reasons assume that you're going to declare that it is not practical or proven to have the meeting in or with the whole board here is that right mr. president that is correct sir yes thank you you done what you needed to legally superintendent I appreciate your legal and put star thank you and also this evening is that mrs. Hill Karen Hill will be taking the roll call and also the vote call due to the fact that she's present in the in the boardroom I'm going to go ahead and call the meeting to order and I would ask mrs. Bill if there was anybody that email comments on the agenda items this evening I do not have any email okay so it's going to bring us down to agenda item number five is board members opportunity to respond to the public and or board member comments do any of the board members have any comments at this time hearing none brings us down to agenda item excuse me number six is approval of the consent agenda items this is an action item so I would ask for a motion to bring it to the floor please so moved I have a first and a second so excuse me for one second here six is approval of the consent agenda item 6A is approval of the minutes regular board meeting October 15th 2020 agenda item 10 is approval of the expenditures Community High School District 218 payment of bills and Mac table agenda item number 11 is recommendation of the superintendent concerning staff Personnel Personnel list 2020 - 11 is there any board member that wants anything taken off the consent agenda this evening hearing none I would ask mrs. Hill if she would please take a vote Collier birthday ideas what does cats laser laser eye Hillcrest eye saskia Christian Christian yes okay the consent agenda test it was a have no vote and their presents down two agenda item number 7 which is old business and we do not have any old business this evening so it brings this down to agenda item number 8 was is reports to the superintendent 10 is the financial report as many questions are discussing please I do have a question to Elsa have you heard anything more about the projections on the light trt and I mean any any of our revenue for the next year I've heard very little about what's going to happen so far after the election now we were waiting at the veto session was King soap so I'm not sure when we'll be back in session to hear anything more at the state level thank you are there any other questions hearing I'm bringing us down to 10 beers to technology update are there any questions discussion Harrington brings us down to 10 C is the student enrollment report are there any questions turn on brings us down to 10 excuses meets 8D which is general maintenance report turn on questions brings us down to 10 which is business managers update Torino questions brings this down to update on remote Flash in person School schooling this is discussion is there any discussion or questions or I can just say a couple of words mr. President we are as the board knows we're in all remote learning right now we actually extended the original date November 30th through Friday December 4th will continue remote we've also made it optional at beginning Wednesday for staff members who can work at home to work at home moving forward we're hopeful that Super Bowl. For the last 2 weeks before the break I right now the numbers are a kind of raging out of control so that does not look super proud of seeing that we'll be able to do that but that's a few weeks away here three weeks away here so we'll see how things how things go and you know Josh pursue or Mike and jump in if you want to dress anything with remote learning Nationwide crisis right now with the number of students failures we're not alone locally here we've had conversations about student grades so we put together a pandemic great Improvement plan that we shared with the staff we have a reason for remaining Wednesday's we're going to dedicate that time for academic support and tutoring for students and so far we've seen a reduction and failures just from one Wednesday so optimistic increase we had some lengthy conversation about allowing student late work to be accepted and brainstorm some different ideas to get creative with helping kids improve their grades so it's so far it's been walrus it's in the works and we're optimistic we're going to see an improvement in Mastery that's our ultimate goal the failure is it because of missing work or not before 9 a variety of thing it's a variety of things but yes when we when we dig into the the grade books and and research that we did find a lot of missing assignments we made numerous efforts to the MTS the process to reach out to kids we're starting to see a little bit of progress during more optimistic or to see more as we we get to the finish line here at the end of the semester also just as an FYI are most at risk special education rims are going to remain in person through the Thanksgiving holiday it's just difficult for those students to access remote learning so we're going to try and keep them in person as long as possible there are a few of the classrooms that have been quarantined either to a staff member having symptoms student having symptoms were using Extreme Caution as we do this remember that the teachers have the the highest level PPE that they're able to use but we're still being very cautious of a student or staff member exhibit exhibit symptoms staff member faculty with d on the special needs students if they have to work from home or are they able to cuz I know we're concerned about the accuracy of the students making sure that access but I'm concerned offs about our our our teacher is that they say the same ability to make a decision to working home knife in in as a teacher and regular algebra or geometry or creating different rules for different teachers. right and we've we have we've been in very good communication with the Union about this there they've been very supportive of because this is it's about kids we are here for kids I understand that the staff so what we have done knock on wood with most most of our staff are understanding because it's again they understand that but really it's difficult to be students to access learning from home where they need a family member from SoMo start coming in but those who have had issues what we did previously is get a sub for the person and then a teacher teaches remote but the students are still in person okay thank you so can you give them just a quick overview I know you had the parent meeting last week just in some of their reactions to remote learning and I know Sheila you were in attendance bill you were in attendance it was I think very very positive I was I was very happy because what we hear remember we often hear that you often hear people the whiners right though tend to be the most vocal the parents were very supportive. We're doing a good job they had and they had wonderful suggestions are going into second semester we have a Josh started a committee to two already look at 2nd master and how to make it better I think that wonderful recommendations but they were very very positive about how we handle the situation so I thought that was really very nice to hear and I don't know if she will Bailey another suggest recommendations are things that you remember I think one of the we spent a lot of time I know a lot of parents are really concerned this is everywhere you're here in about it they're their children just kind of getting depressed from sitting up in a bedroom for 8 hours on your computer and then going back in her bedroom and sitting here for another four hours doing homework so a lot of parents are really really kind of expressing that their kids are kind of down in the dumps and if there's I don't know if there's anything do social reform or you know get him a brain break during the day or move something around in the schedule so that maybe they get some time to themselves and get out of the room so and I know there was a big concern that our parents are. a huge take away and something again sharing this information with Josh it's on the table for us to think about it cuz I agree with you Bill I think I I was really not surprised but it brought to light these kids are sitting in front of the computer all day and it's very difficult so again Josh's committee will examine that for next semester nothing too I think parents just needed a a space essay space to stay and their concerns and moving forward what what what else could could happen and what they need to do a lot of the parents on the call was what is it that we need to do is it something that I can do to help more and I thought that was real good because it takes a team we are Village Inn and if it is something going on on your end that you see your child and you bring it to the to the to the teacher or to a meeting like this you expect something to happen so I think that that was really great space for them to express themselves and then just exactly all what the district is going to do and what they've been doing Us by if they didn't know now they know the job okay these are certainly difficult times in a lot of people have been put in we're moving forward and positive fashion and weigh and hopefully this will end soon okay bring us down to a g is committed report board members are there any committee reports it's not really a committee necessarily but do we have anything sorry I took my finger off the space mark do we have any update on the culture on Equity audit I can give you right now is that the first round of interviews were completed they are now moving on to focus groups and our buildings and our community and those will be completed I believe about the next four weeks are so so we're we're still in the middle of it when it sank beyond the board those of you everybody it was interviewed so they really interviewed all of upper management administrative Lee and the board members and now they're going to move to more diverse groups prostitute so it's in motion Randy but still going to a few more weeks to complete and that's all we'll get findings and stuff like that certified staff begin right after Thanksgiving and then they've got we've got Jack he's done an excellent job of reaching out to the building teams Mike you know Joe Eric have all gotten staff members so we have a very very diverse group and that they're nice size groups for both certified and classified great thank you guys dr. Harding When you mention reaching out to the community and I mention this when I had my interview with them they're going to survey the community what what do they mean by that Associated directly with 218 my thinking is a king you know it's made up of more than just people that send their children here so I hope they would reach out to write the residents that may not have students into 18 in regular community members that may not have as much Direct connection to our school but still pay taxes and maybe use some of our facilities in the district so just wanted to mention that people's perceptions of the district those would certainly be perceptions we'd be interested as well so we'll talk with Jackie and see I'm not sure who she's recruited for Community but we will certainly explore that Bob thank you parents right now Bob so we'll all make that messages is brought her I don't know a group but we did went to parents right now every time I hear they talked about 2:30 but it usually doesn't mean the falcon that's why I wanted to mention that okay set the under committee reports is down two agenda item number 9 which is new business 98 is a proposal to revise the 2021-2022 course selection guide this is an action item so I need a motion to bring it to the floor please what is it removes Christian second I have a first and the second is there any discussion or comments on this item hearing none of this is  would you please take it to a vote karthikeya just enter boisar mister stokis stok acai Roski eye Christian yes okay we have a 700 motion carries brings this down to 90 is an amendment to the transportation agreement this is action item give me I need a motion to bring it to the floor please Christian song Move I have a first and the second is there any disc turn on this item mrs.
