I'm going to call okay if we got that we're going to call the school board meeting Thursday April 16th 2020 virtual 6:30 and this is a remote meeting because of the camp 19 virus MTG remote cuz of the Cyrus all right so let's see what else I have almost there okay so Karen Hill will be doing the roll call and also Home Depot call to the fact that a pretty difficult for Carol to do that this evening and this just because of convenience and Coyote Point Mike's Towing a time cuz I was he can I do a little legal underwear do out the city just to make it clear so that 2 years from now people are gone Molly Ephraim middle by executive order 2020 - 07 signed by Illinois governor JB pritzker on March 16th 2020 in response to the public and Evan okay thank you Mandy appreciate that so we're going to go to agenda item number to which is the roll call and I would ask Karen if she would do the roll call please no more has it say that preach name cuz you can have to go off of mute and then go back out again thank you mister Christian Miss Collier this is Sparta resident misses cat what's the weather here Sinister Kozlowski I am present so we do have a full board we have a quorum and I'm going to move to agenda item number three is Pledge of Allegiance I would ask if you would please just say that is home yourself maybe after the meeting if you wished I think it would be kind of difficult to do that at this time God love this country I'm sure we all do okay so now we're down to agenda item number for Samons from the top related to the meeting agenda items and the April board meeting is on Thursday April 16th at 6:30 and will be held personally do to bother torrent 19 crisis, comments please submit in writing to Karen Hill email 2 hours before the meeting commences and provide an email address or any responses did you get any questions from the public at all okay singing nun item number 5 any board members that want to make any comments at this time turn on we'll go down to agenda item number six is approval of the consent agenda agenda items action items I need a motion to bring to the floor please the second please I have a first and the second 6A is approval of the minutes at the regular board meeting March 19th 2026 junk item number 10 is approval of Bixby pictures really High School District 218 payment of bills and agenda item number 11 is recommendations of the superintendent concerning stamp no Personnel list 2020 or are there any board members that want anything taken off the consent agenda scary nun nun ask Carolyn if you would please take the boat mrs. Kozlowski Mister Christian okay motion carry and conceal so that brings us down to agenda item number 7 which is old business which we do not have any open Pacific Time versus town to send item number 8 is reports the superintendent 10 days financial report if you have any questions I will hesitate in between the agenda items so you may speak there ain't no question I bring bring this down to 10 body is the technology update are there any questions Marymount brings it down to eight student enrollment report are there any questions Richie is a general maintenance report are there any questions Perignon bunch of town to a tap is foia request questions non princess down to he is business managers update any question princess down to eight H's remote learning report are there any questions what's going on with remote learning in whatever I change my background just for you and give you some feedback as well as anybody got any specific questions glad to answer that Randy I guess just asked how everything is going correctly minimum day requirements and just how how's it going just let me know I would say over Austin very positive and we are ready as ready for this as possible good thing we would try little earning last year and with R11 technology and digital collaboration stations have been having for the last few years I think we're well prepared for this obviously their issues that of a rose with no kids not have internet access and those types of things and I know I want to step up to provide those opportunities for kid pick up packets, provided food I mean there's there's so many people doing so many great things to help kids and we work tirelessly to forget to get everything up and running and ready and the disengage students you know Sue has been working very card with with a student services or services to make sure that every kid as an opportunity to get help social and emotionally and academically curriculum directors with remote remote learning committee that meets every Monday at 10 a.m. see I said the meeting regularly on Thursdays we're happy with the principal and we've been having District Council it's going to nakation but very impressive what we have put together in real opportunity to brag about everybody has really stepped up and our attendance I think Tim can speak to this but it's been roughly about 85% and you know it's hard to gauge what that looks like compared to other districts but they're they're basically doing that attendance on their own but if this is unprecedented times and where I we we we rose up to the occasion to to help as much as we can now they're still some questions that aren't answered and it's a fluid situation and we're doing our best to respond to it yeah that was a little bit but I know that you guys went to the schedule. I'm on a Wednesday or Monday and Wednesdays. through floor in at 5 to 8 on Tuesdays and Thursdays with Friday being a teacher planning day so you know we did we look at what other school districts are doing and that's the best weight bullet came up with to make it more manageable for students in to do this Friday kids opportunity to catch up you know we're not trying to harm kids right now we're we're looking at right now you know we're giving grades but we're not going to we're not going to fail any kids getting completely froze the grades of the March 13th where we going to expect the teacher to do if a screenshot so there's we're not going to harm kids right now we're looking at summer programming and trying to prepare for that the transition plan to come back to school call in a work work all those things are in the world seniors how do I report a meeting today with disciplinary actions and the counseling facilitator seniors are a little bit worst of course but it's here I'm going to tell you what it is when we dig down into the attendance it's not for the seniors aren't attending they're not. engaging in a classes that they don't need for graduation or elective classes are taking a little bit more of a hit but overall when we're cross-checking are the students were kind of an Tris prior to this across checking it with the kids who are not engaging in the work in the remote learning and it's very interesting because it's not the same kid Tony course he's been digging real digging into the data for preliminary he literally just got access to somebody spreadsheets yesterday but we're going to really try to take a look at who is the kid that is working with the kid that is not we had some Union teachers who said that actually kids were not engaging before but now I'm I got to say is I'm very very impressed I didn't Josh did phenomenal job with the the committee remote learning too many we put together a really solid this is one of those moments I like I'm really proud of the district are support staff those at risk kids have more resources than more people contacting them transecting families and probably they did before because it's getting this is all I'm doing not right if you're not engaged there there kind of engaging so a collective effort everyone has stepped up principles and cats communication technology Tim I mean it's it's unreal everyone coming together here for the good of the cause in this this unfortunate situation so just we should be proud really awesome opportunity for us to come together under these circumstances and then everyone has played a role and stepped up and gone above and beyond your principles right now in a building Zara copies for kids that don't have internet access and making sure those kids get the packets in the textbook that they need has been working night because it's all technology right really really needs a lot of credit for taking this and kind of making it work with John Oliver there every day making sure the kids are fat I mean that you know there's just you know imma kiss your  guy but I've been eating us women it up every single day you know texting constantly you know I mean it's it's been it's been 24 7. Security station and wouldn't be done without his leadership they are processing hundreds of support request per day times coupon for them if they've all been stepping up we created a common email address for each building so when you like if you emailed Eisenhower tech support would go down for all three people before and living it really didn't close the coordinating and and I really live in they can possibly in a lot of lot of requests parents but it's an awesome meal hold together to see if Steve happened so quickly you know they've been coming in and helping and it's just turn awesome to see you none Karen at the district office coming in and Tina's Mike and speak to piano and Karen working working so hard to answer all the questions I really truly don't have internet access is it a big deal if you have some numbers that you can share right across from the call and then what we've been keeping track of them terms of its attendance yeah I can pull up real quick just to give you an idea huge numbers okay so right now we've got at Eisenhower if we were on that we're meeting and knowing that list each building and it's a very fluid last time we started by doing a call for all families and we got a starting point but there were some problems we've been trying to find out what's overtime right now we have about a hundred students on the no internet list that I have an hour at Richards who got about 40 students at Richardson and no internet list at Shepherd about 32 students we have about 20 not to be what's on a couple things here too and then I got a question I got a question for you cuz it's time for those  sorry but I would like to know it would put the remote learning report especially for the seniors what is B state board graduation credits and how was this I don't need to hear the whole process but how many of our students appear the number or talk to regen mode it's time to will be able to make the requirements for graduation this year I guess is my or my question we don't have a number right now but we are doing everything humanly possible to get is many if not all kids to move on and that's kind of the director for the state will kids get harmed any kids that don't graduate will receive in complete and we're developing a plan for that to what does that mean what are those that student need to do that the complete a packet of some material or do something in order to move forward so failings almost not allowed in the current environment and that's a strong recommendation from the state so that's what we're really trying with here to we also have an insult you can speak to this better and I can look in terms of being open to non essential courses for kids that they can withdraw and is that they have enough credits to graduate they're going to graduate so we're trying to be flexible and the credits are earned the counselors are prioritizing they're reaching out your phone or video and doing credit checks with all the seniors and they're basically doing kind of the motivation to seniors are the priority right now doing everything possible Josh is right if there's a non-essential classes senior just took a couple extra classes to fill up their schedule and they know it and now they're choosing not to participate in that class we're going to wants the credit what is Don and they meet with the council they're just going to withdrawing from the class so it doesn't hurt them and they can graduate knows our kids that are on track to graduate and have all other graduation requirements I appreciate the effort and all the hard work and to have this all fall upon has it one time and for certified staff and administration to protect everybody in school everybody that works there but thank you so much for your heart your days are very long they're not easy and it's such a big change is it hard to deal with so and I'm sure a lot or exhausted and we speak for the board at least is to say thank you so much for all the work that you have done we really do appreciate that though and I will leave it at that thank you thank you for the lower level students pay freshman stop is there any parents reaching out cuz some of the kids are missing basically probably what 20% of the school year and we're doing it remotely but I'm a student struggling stay in their freshman year is it is there been any parents that have considered or ask the district to my son or daughter repeat freshman year I know use it on repeat grades in high school but you're missing out so much and you're passing them through then you're going to start sophomore year and it might be challenging for the leader Master you know freshman courses just a question I mean you know it's not going to be anything but when you got so your sophomore your junior year you may not have had all those pills you know that you would have had if you had it starts with the young kids that are struggling last night your AG students in the classroom because I mean I know that these are doing a good job but still not the same level of Education that we would get you know as is usual I wouldn't think just a question I'm pretty sure nobody's asked for their kid to repeat the grade if you know principles can correct me if I am wrong about that but we need to develop here is a transition plan when we do go back into in-person teaching and Josh can speak to this is basically that's meant it's been thrown out you may have to take some of the stuff we were going to learn at the end of this year and put it at the beginning of next year we're going to try to cover those things down so we can put some of this standards of some of this curriculum back in for the we did discuss this today about the great learning Gap that we're going to experience here and that's going to be part of the planning for this summer they're going to have to probably do most it remotely I guess positive ground March 13th we had spring break built in there then we had to sport a weekend built-in that actually the month of April that wasn't too bad in terms of number days missed but definitely everyday Miss then and now you don't I am almost like a half schedule right now they won't be gaps that we're going to have to fill in and you know those are discussions that we had today in terms of getting are plc's together to plan accordingly but hopefully it feels going to be even though if you really think about there's going to have to connect change is everywhere that I spent to even it out I mean that's on the SAT to standardize how standardized testing we're going to make some adjustments I would think it's good to hear you're going to make up to the Gap in the transition that was my concern with with all skins how are they going to put up the transition and had a little bit of a different school year next year you know what your transition plan that that's really good to hear I'm glad to hear that you have to look different and maybe even there's some things we can offer for for kids over to Summer we've already started talking about that Sue and I working with Justin Clark and Jackie Johnson too too specially for the kids that have incomplete summer school is going to look like a good time several years ago I asked about the possibility of doing the class start to the Finish online class I will just be a good time to think about that maybe yeah I mean I know Justin Justin Aquino did some stuff last summer with a with a couple of pilots in so we were going to have to look into all that a little bit but I got to be honest it seems to be a piece of cake right now will go a couple other things really quickly here I know somebody mentioned that the lunches and Jon Hallberg but who knows could John and Mike Ryan sent me just a bit earlier we serve 51,000 lunches meals to kids okay and their families throughout all three High School site so that's just an incredible number to me with 51,000 it's really it's really emphasized what is essentially we are these Willie in the role that the high schools play we are hearing that it's very possible that tomorrow the governor if not tomorrow it will be next Friday but we're the scuttlebutt has it tomorrow he's going to come out and talk about what we can do with schools for the rest of the year we anticipate that is going to keep them shut down but I don't I do not know that I don't have any inside line on that but I did want the boards at all and certainly we would discuss this with the board in more detail but I'm not sure if I would recommend even if he says we could come back we literally wouldn't have one week left with seniors total of three weeks left with the rest of the kids and kind of the risk-reward balance here just doesn't seem worth it in well so they can we all pull up half the kids will show up and some of the teachers go on a comment in and all that sort of stuff so we're not making any decisions tonight but I'm just let you know where we're at mentally but we're talking about this I also want to mention that we're planning right now we're talking about congratulations on virtual graduation probably how we're going to make that work what are we going to about things like prime or wherever whenever I promise I could be later in the summer or it's going to get canceled or let kids come next year so those are things were starting to work on now and also the possibility that we could in the fall also be involved in some sort of remote learning or a different set of rules about how the schools need to function and you know social distancing and that sort of stuff so well that's kind of squirrel it around and I mean there are still so many unanswered questions. Just with us but with is be no downstate at if it's just it's day-by-day different things pop up like why what are we going to do about this do about that so want to make sure you're aware that may also one that I don't know if any principles have any thing that they want to adhere from their perspective they'd even one of the buildings here if there's anything else the Board needs to hear about what's going on and how things have been how are they doing principal speaker the teachers for the most part they're really good spirits day Mr near the students that you know as many peaches do I think they've all been really good in terms of being really creative destruction on the Fly you know the remote remote learning so I think I stopped making calls with students using call Dean contacts who is home visits so because I really ain't in good spirits as good as possible at this point snack it's the same with the teachers at Shepherd they really want to come back they're not happy with this and they're doing everything they can to make sure the students are successful which includes the coming up to school almost too much I'm asking them not to come just email me things that I have time to 20 teacher spread out by chewing a Time throughout the day making copies when everything they can Rogers guys have got to let them know by building engineer say read this in every room every single day that teachers come in don't think Misty nurse do I would say the same for the Delta stomach teachers it's been they've been wonderful they've been great. I'll go everybody else's comments the amount of work they're putting in the communication has been wonderful among staff with the administration with parents response time to parents I saw a handful of emails today in Winston minutes sometimes they're getting right back to parents helping them out whether it's logging in or helping with milk Hunter daughter with a problem I couldn't be more pleased with with all of their efforts are doing an excellent job you're the one the one thing I'll say was working way harder than they did like I'm not and I'm working hard but I've never been I was I've never been this happy nothing more this is it for them I couldn't be prouder them and we stumble out of this really nice really nice statements made because that I said outside everyday we handle Isis out as set up everyday to see people and every single person is I also think I promise you sound so so so great job and I'm really trying to really thoughtful about how to reward these people got to be costly send all messages of how much are they as a person who sent their kid to school Clockwork she sends an email to me lyrics wanted to so if I say the board when you're done with all this it's just teachers were going to really need you for stepping up because they the function in the completely and totally different way of amazing it's going as smoothly as it is for everyone else cuz the best teachers and support staff Mike behind the scenes are dealing with the kids who got the most malicious before this really sings the depression and anxiety they're doing video conferences there they're really reached out to kids above and beyond so I want to put a plug in it for them as well in the feedback is a Joe Terry Union president is is on the remote learning committee we check in once a week in counseling Converse in pain Constant Contact and that the feedback from the union has been very positive and everyone stopping off in the leadership style and we and we listen to their concerns I mean that that was the beginning of the remote learning making some of these changes we were kind of changing things build the plane in the air and we were listening to the teachers in the things that they needed and we've been responsive Diamond Jo Teri keeps complimenting on on how happy most of the teachers are considering the circumstances robot what is a T Test like and are teachers in school at the teachers will hold some kind of review session for the kids before they take their son plan Tony course he is on a webinar every other day with with the college board we're attached in contact with the AP teachers and we do have some gray formulating right now to review and weeks to put it out there to the teachers if they need more time on the weekends whatever night at the golf for it so I'm a lot of what they're doing right now is review for the test so are you the best I am with the online option and there will be a makeup day as well but work we're on at week we had it on the agenda today and then we discussed it with a cricket on directors those are amazing, and it's been amazing and I really do appreciate his family and for them to everybody two kitchen and reach out in this Crisis crisis is just as wonderful so thank you to everybody that's involved so I will move down agenda go ahead I wanted to know if there's anything as a district that we can do to assist the families without internet access to obtain it we have what we have put out all the opportunities in a specialist and text Dad have reached out to these families and I don't know what Sam if you've been keeping track number of of a families that did not have it and do you have it now but we did we put it out there it's on our website make calls me have definitely made a concerted effort I know Comcast as a free opportunity out there but I just don't know how many people have taken advantage of it but the principles can tell you you know some facts on these packets Carter page is that that that people are picking up we are looking at possibly making delivery some some some stuff we have mailed and now we're trying to figure out how we're going to get that back to the teacher so it's it's been a it's been a process that all families also let me know about the free offer from Comcast right now to get free internet and then we put it on our website as well McDonald's have access we're providing alternative that are not internet-based for those who cannot ultimately get access number one number two if they can't for providing alternative work packet for this year simplify your end of that if you could get them the internet and then everyone what did you say about the packets not able to get them back is that what you said we need it we need to figure out a way we're trying to give him enough material to the end of the month cuz you know the April 30th date we're at we're actually going to have to do another another round of this I would assume you're at the governor comes out cancel the school year but we have to figure out now how to get the packets back so we get at the hands of the teacher so they can grade it and give the students feedback so that is our next turtle in trying you know our our our most at-risk kids coming up to the school and being being exposed to this you know that's the other the other Factor so were you know we're trying to figure out why even talk today about jumping on bosses and into making deliveries you know when I get away the way to go do you know if you need any assistance for support delivering thing only work half a day now thank you and that's going on at the bill he's really stepped up and done an awesome job with the printing up and I know Crystal directors are working over the weekend to PDF everything so it's been a collective effort okay good job we're going to move down to agenda item number 8 I and its committee reports by board members are there any committee reports carrying on we're going to go down to agenda item number 9 which is new business and 9 a school board meeting dates to 2:20 22201 I'm sorry to 2021 and this is only informational only so if you have we don't need to vote on this but if somebody has a camera something you can pick that up or bring it up later I don't know when exactly the board meeting will take place physically or we all see each other again but hopefully it'll be in the future can I make two comments dispose of I know this is information only but the November 19th is the night before Triple-I and I know the board sometimes says we should not have it on that date the Christmas one you know we move that last year this is the 17th it's a little bit further away so I don't know if you know it when it's on the twenty-first and twenty-second we've asked to move in a week earlier but those up into issues and again it's just information it's something to ponder when we come back and vote if if you've got a suggestion he want something those days or any date that are listed there I would request that be November date either be moved to the firewall or the Monday or Tuesday of that week I agree it's all you'd be a conference, November I repair I don't think there's going to be one I think I don't think we're going to see the first semester next year myself but anticipating another another wave in the fall or it will start the semester then we're going to do the same thing okay but we'll make note of that okay thank you thank you when is our last day before break before Christmas break I don't have it with me so it wasn't allegation from last year Ben Ben I haven't heard anything and we had a lot of you know some parents complaining last year with all the social media issues and pictures of food being posted at that's all in the past cracked is it far as I know John is there anything I think this the nothing is sure I believe what are stability Brigadier Chartwells Chicago Watkins who's our new leader Chartwells is outstanding and she's on it. she's constantly changing up the menu to constantly the building just checking out staff they've got a really great job and especially last month they really stopped up she's got people that in the buildings every morning packaging bulk meals and that's so nothing but positive with Chartwell for this past year thank you okay Karen will you please take that yes yes Blazer hi Sister Christian and this is Collier motion carried something old francestown to 90th Amendment amendment 2 call the transportation agreement I need a motion to bring to the core please I am the first and the second is there any Transportation agreement if there is going to be the federal government they will reimburse how are we going to track that I'll leave that to the questions mr. Stillman then with us with negotiations with them we have two main thing one is that they're going to cover our regularly scheduled but we will be paying 80% of the regularly scheduled if they're average of all of their districts Falls below that 80% then we get that credit back we go down to the average we also have a piece in there that that if it is not reimbursable by the state after the fact they are to give us credit for the next three years that was a provision that to make sure that you know they weren't writing that the following your everybody was going to get it and then they're going to go broke from paying everybody we want them to be a going concern so we spread it over to the contract that we have we did this back in January have them for three years so doubt yet we also have them making sure that they're giving us certified payroll checks to make sure that they are not claiming anything and so you know I'm getting the money from us so they can't double dip there's a feature what about what about our reimbursement from the state for transportation how is that going to affect if we're not actually providing station This Is Us Mister snowman show is being said that has given opinion that they're going to pay the amount they're going to pay the 80% and that's what we normally get hazard reimbursement from the state and that's why the language language that is if somehow is being based on the state budget situation says no we're not going to do that we will then have the ability to go get our money back over three years that's what the health of us ain't so we're basically being a pass through here where we've been we've been told both by the federal government and by the state that they want us to keep all the Employers in our contractors ongoing concerns in in especially with transportation services the thought one when we were negotiating this stuff is that hopefully by May one that we need them and they start their service doesn't look like that's likely but that that was one of the reasons why this is being done by almost all school districts are going to all of them had to do this and we will there be one of their largest I would just kind of going to take you back wait a little bit more what else it was explaining on the 80 80% that's broke the flow through the galleries so that's the actual flow through that we're going to be getting and paying them back but if some other District they don't want to pay the whole 80% when they pay stub 5% weed and then we have that Assurance to that was not in the original document that was presented so I'm confident that we we protected the district I were doing with this federal government and the state wants us to do I keep them keep painter contractors but we also have the 11th security that I think that you that you need to know there is a concern however we have the state reassurance that we are due this I asked how is this how is this allowed when we're paying that we're not paying for repairs texting or monies for services that are being provided we got the letter so I think we're fine on that as well they're going to keep paying their employees at bus drivers laid off for you no pain 80% so that's a good thing I hate to say I wasn't sure I would say that and they were having difficulty they indicated in our discussion and correct me if I'm wrong about their job that they were having difficulty getting and looking at the document getting enough employees because of the fact that the unemployment so low when they come back and knock on wood end in August or in January they're going to have a larger larger pool for employees so I think we're going to be fine the key is that we have to keep them in business if they're not if significant trouble I would if I would have to I would have to agree it would be disastrous if they want to have a business and who who would we hire to pick up the slack that would be locked you know and I also in my food Journeys out the door to bring food from the restaurants locally I have gone by bus company and I did see hiring sign so they are hiring people are trained to whatever I don't know all these details with that but they do have a sign-up thing that they are hiring so I kind of bug at all smile on my face when I saw that it's good think so anybody like to hear that you're one of the few hiring grocery store if we were going to do something like that you know how fond the bus and deliver stuff to the kids dinner beginning utilize them since we're paying them would we do that we would Mandy they do that we're paying for their services John and and and Mike did a great job where I was another meeting that I really I think they messed the spirit of what the state and the federal government's asking but they also protected the district I just thought the solutions were or excellent here in a bus company that we're not happy with their service but it is true we going to drive going to pick the kids up you know unfortunately we do now and so we are protected Financial in case anything goes south this has been quite a discussion throughout the state with the superintendent's and with is the about the bus companies and I really think we came out about as well as you could come out and not the greatest hits relations quite honestly so I think Grace out to those three yes great job and it also tied before we were looking for we're going to change the school actually we kind of got her a foot into the water a little bit and found out that it's very hard to change bus companies because of the Theater District and other companies to pick up so it is a good thing do keep them in business property tax pay or two and they aren't working right now okay that's good to hear okay so we need to take a boat down there so Karen would you please take a bow mrs.
