Carroll Baker waiting all year for myself and capitalism half boy half way out Cheyenne weather  talk to you about an what's been going on in the music science department and District 218 and I thought I would start tonight with my line a couple of things and the music department and hi this is my tenth year and as cranky alone director for Science and music so I thought I would share with you a little bit of information we are doing our staffing right now I pulled the Staffing numbers back from 2006 and I thought I would just share with you that back in 2006 we had 526 students enrolled in our music programs and for next year we have 909 and roll and it does not include any of our after-school program so that's plus the ones that are during the school day we do know there's an awful lot of research out there that tells us that participation in the music programs typically equates with good grades and school so I'm really celebrating on the growth that we've had on in the music department show me to our growth to really trying to create new courses and New Mex truck free killer offering to meet the needs of the entrance of student so for example Orchestra at Eisenhower we have a gospel choir now at Richards we also have a mariachi band at Eisenhower and there was a class when I came in this position called music seminar then head barely on your moment and we change that first to the history of rock and roll and only provides the gun to Advanced guitar and I'm happy to say we're meeting the needs and interests of a lot more students than we ever have before last week the music department had a chance to travel to the Apple Store in Oakbrook for some specialized training and looking at what will be able to do with iPads and music department beginning next year so that was really great experience breath I can tell you that the music department is very very excited about having iPads to use in their classroom  animal Beyonce science as you know we've been in this phase of transitioning from our old curriculum to our nuclear and for our teachers that means transitioning a lecture based instruction to an activity-based instruction so what we're doing is moving from teaching kids about science to teaching them to science so one of the analogies that I use when I talk to people about transitioning is that imagine what it's like to be a spectator what stands in a sporting event and you might going off a lot about the rules and the regulations of that sport but you would never know as much as you would know if you were Rihanna Plainfield so what we're trying to do with kids is take them from being that spectator in the stands and actually putting them on the field so that they you know how to do science  the teachers are finding that this transition quite a challenge first of all they're changing what they teach so there's been some change in the content and then there's been a big change in terms of how they teach how they instruct in the classroom but probably the biggest change that works. partnership with another High School District it has to be a cooperative and right now were we are part of a cooperative said it does not have any other high schools planning on coming up with I mean they're all having the same issue we're all kind of tightly connected here razor clams that they belong to a part other high schools are part of that so they don't have those issues they are able to send students to their Cooperative programs and because when a positive for the only High School District we can't so we're actually unique in that sense but it is something that we were I really looking at because it is it's worth right now we have to make some decisions and we want to make decisions that are on the bus obviously but that are also physically responsible but it's an excellent meeting a big part of our meeting was obviously we're still discussing great detail the Richards New Edition on there and we passed the dla to give us some options reduce the cost from the direction
