this is the Board of Education Community High School District 218 this is the regular board meeting Thursday September 16th 2021 and we're at The District administration Center in Oak Lawn and mr. This is a wonderful story recently lost her dog. Rodriguez everybody I seen her daughter drove the area looking for him then countered Anthony and a group of friends in the Dunkin Donuts parking lot 1127 he said no but is he gave him tell you the flyer seeking his return he would see what he could do and he didn't answer you take a picture of the flyer posted it to the Facebook group Blue Island happening and within hours summer spotted they had to go and arrange the reunification has been so appreciative if Anthony's I was going to find her dog and she's here tonight to say a few words about it I will almost started to cry all the again unfortunately I'm by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs my dog got out of our yard and he got away from me quickly because I'm visually impaired and I was unable to find him within that you know of first few minutes said he got away so unfortunately my daughter came home from work and we have been driving around looking for my dog and for like more than 24 hours by the time we encountered Anthony and I'm I walked up to Anthony I actually he was indoors in the Dunkin Donuts and I had a flyer cuz you were posting Flyers at the time and I just had you know how you know young man have you seen my dog anywhere I'm looking for my dog my dog August missing and Anthony being a young teenager he could have said how do you say how can I old ladies out but he was very nice and very caring as sympathetic about what was going on with us not knowing that I had any type of disability or anything but just you know showing that you know he cared and asked questions and he did ask take a picture of the flyer the next morning after we still haven't found my dog and I had slept for like maybe three hours I woke up and I went directly to Facebook just to see if anybody had you no commented that they had found my dog because we had been posting on Facebook and we weren't getting any responses Anthony had made a post and ask the first few words were like oh this nice lady approached me and I didn't read anything more I just started boohoo where to hunt nice young man you know he made a post about Chica and I instantly feel better cuz I kind of felt like that you know if I had some young eyes on the job you know that Mom something my dog would come up and I'm so the next day I'm just out to me thanks for going on on Facebook and someone had actually you know the siding of my dog off of Anthony post and they commented on to another person that dog did belong to us and I'm brought the dog home and one other quick thing I just want to say that Anthony husted said on his post he said yeah I got to be crazy have a smart after my dog I found out how the smallest things can mean so much to people Anthony didn't know at the time that my daughter said you did that dog to me when their stepdad passed away and I have been caring for him while he had been sick and suffering with heart disease and so they felt like I would be lonely and I needed to know to care for a pet you know because there are grown and you know and then he was to see so Anthony you have no idea how much yes you are Small Deeds to be so Monumental to someone else and I'm thankful and grateful to you for help to get my dog, thank you all or wants to congratulate everyone receiving an award this evening and the Pacheco the dog story does not bring a tear to your eye I don't know what will the rapper I'm going to have to this evening we have a lengthy agenda so don't feel like you have to stay for the whole meeting at me you're more than welcome to but if you want to leave whenever you want that's fine too so congratulations again okay so jhanda item number 5 is coming from the public related to meeting agenda items or are there any comments from the public Hooters I just want to let people know if that's yes my name is Richard Mason and I live here in Oak Lawn and I came and spoke to you about a month ago you know what my understanding of public comment is that I get to say my comments and then don't expect to be a dialog for an upper Unity to debate any of you about that so I left after I made my commentary of the last meeting understand that the board secretary the number of comments that I'd like to address so I guess I'd like to start out first with expressing my incredulity that a board member would actually argue that we not enforce one of our rules because a set of constituents pay taxes all of us pay taxes rules are rules for reasons I'm sure the booster organizations for any of the sports teams the parent organizations for any of the Arts teams and and Foundation would love to have alcohol at their events to help fundraise but the rule doesn't allow that into the rules shouldn't allow private organizations to you public property against District rules that's an easy one song it's really disappointing I hear an elected official Express a desire that you should just disregard your rule which is what I've heard when I when I heard the recording so let's just perplexing to me I also wanted to express the water comments made by the same board member my volunteer experience in the volunteering that I have done spent nine years on the school board I continue to volunteer what time would you Sports organizations at the board members that makes that statement so I'm here today to make to save continue the expectation is the private organ directions to follow the district rules and the board and the administration of 218 to continue to enforce those rules against private organizations no I said private organizations when I came here I did not address one because there are multiple organizations that violate this rule about the board member in particular then felt it necessary to talk about and private organization that he himself was a part of I find that grossly inappropriate for board member to do that should have recused himself from any conversation about that so I ask you again to follow the rules you bought these rules it says no alcohol and Oates Private organ patient should not be using School District property in consuming alcohol in it right underneath the sign that says so and thank you for your time okay thank you sir are there any other comments from the public safety hearing none will move on to agenda item number 6 is board members at 4:30 to respond to the public and or bored are there any board member comments active retirement center president at one is to thank God for Feeny I'm over the last couple weeks I've been working with her on cuz I'm getting a lot of questions for my constituents from our community members about the Inspire clinic and the special education rules are kind of confusing a lot has changed and that could be numerous times as I'm provided me with information that I can take back to my constituents about Inspire clinic and everyone knows how much I raved about the Inspire Clinic resource we have four everyone in our community and 282 use and it's and it's one of the rules of our district and I just want to take time tonight to respond after hours is night emails, at night I'm about some about the questions I had regarding Inspire clinic in special education rules for that and second couple couple weeks ago I was driving around the neighborhood and I've noticed that the school bus stop at stop sign or being blown by a lot of lot of Drive so that troubles me because that obviously I was a safety concern for our students or the elementary school students are not sure if it was one of our bosses or Elementary School Bus School Bus it doesn't matter to school bus with with our kids so I reached out to the administration of president of the board dr. Baron and after hurting and I want to see or was okay with this and then having to discuss it now during board member comments but if you're not I guess the doctor already know I'm at my idea was to have a school bus safety day and to work with all of our I was really thinking of Blue Island Oaklawn in Palos Heights for president said to his credit thought of all the all the communities and said why don't we contact the police department's how I communities and have like they have seat belt acts on a day where they go on our bus routes and look for drivers motorists that are blowing the stop sign on the school bus isn't coming out there moving violations around our school buses and I think the presents will it would deter people in the future from from doing that so. Dr. Barron and I spoke and he proposed to have the Safety Committee meet stakeholders actually talk with an idea about that as the Village of Oak Lawn would be on board with that I think some of them 70 would be our school bus routes where that big bus stops are things like that and all the times we could partner with their Elementary School the two because like I said it's not so much High School versus Elementary School at the school bus with kids and people flying high on their cell phones going around the stop sign arms on the way work cuz they're late but it's a bigger biggest you have always noticed and more so recently so that's on idea I had and the ministration seems on board with that if any board member one board member I can't act on my own so I need one that needs it disagrees Latino station no but I think it's a win-win for students and the overall safety of the community those are my two comments this evening thank you are there any other comments from board members I want to thank Josh and Jacqueline Labor Day weekend there was a robin Festival parade that they have annually every year and shippers shows great fashion and I believe there was Eisenhower 18 represented in the parade and the next time you know so late at all that . greatly appreciated to see district 18 Representatives are there any other comments turn on all move forward send item number seven is approval of the consent agenda it is a action item do I need a motion to bring it to the floor please have a first and a second adjust to someone from steaming up on ferry 7 Days approval of the minutes board meeting August 19th 2021 working board meeting August 31st 2021 working board meeting August 31st 2021 a taste test policy this is the second reading we already had that last meeting 10 a.m. is employees medical and dental insurance renewal 10B is moraine Moraine Area Career system update inter-governmental agreement and Alo does approval of expenditures. president Board of Education we have fourteen of our new hires here group so I'm going to share a little information about them so they're going to stand as like when I call her name Andy orientals ABS English teacher a little bit about Andy University of Illinois graduate of former employee of Danville District 118 he also knows Spanish some Italian currently learning French and he's very handsome Katie comparin is a family consumer science teacher at D D & H o r e c Illinois graduate Governors State University Masters she was a previous employee is in our district as a paraprofessional since 2010 when she has time she is she's a semi professional cake decorator and maker of sweets Nike KD ABS hlr Arc Western Illinois University art education Lewis University Masters in School counseling previous employment Berwyn District 100 many years ago she waited on George Wendt from Norm from chairs Ace Young Cruz Cruz De La Petite us special education teacher Chicago State University for undergrad in mathematics and graduate special ed station previous employment John Marshall High School Chicago virtual school and she loves to run garden and has two chickens grace and mercy Amber Douglas DD special education Illinois State University undergrad Saint Xavier University graduate school special education was a previous special education teacher at Madison School District 162 and she enjoys traveling with her family Romina Garcia Loyola University she's at ABS as a counselor Loyola University Chicago graduate University graduate school for previous employment she was a project manager here in District 218 working closely with mr. corsi she is also a fun fact she is a Dutch Shepherd a coach and the chess team Mary Gladys nurse Administration 80P Saint Xavier University undergrad currently at Louis for a masters she used to work at Christ call center on progressive step-down unit and fun fact I flew a small airplane with help it worked out we need you right now Paris Hardiman sslc social worker Chicago State University previous employment Mensa group and if he could be any superhero would be Batman a car Rent-A-Car e Hawkins DDE social studies this is an impressive one here university of Brown University graduate DEA in Africa Africana studies and education sites and Boston College this is her first job she is an Eisenhower graduate and a state former state champion in speech doctor Don fredell business department abs and hlr Louis University graduates Governors State University Capella University for a doctorate previous employment longtime member of Chicago Board of options exchange and former director of customer development education for trade station Securities a leading Online Trading Company long long history in in in business and now we haven't actually using those skills in a classroom with the kids and he's loving it proud hlr graduate and received the distinguished alumni award in 2001 for more Chicago Ridge Village trustee and former chsd218 School Board member Patrick Richard ABS Art University of Illinois Chicago students are the back of the yard College Prep he likes to play disc golf pro tour during the summer DTE counselor National-Louis University graduate previous employment school-based counseling and Morton Freshman Center she loves dancing want Elbert h l r counselor DePaul University undergrad Concordia University grad previous employee and District 168 Sauk Village she is a thrill-seeker she's jumped out of a going good playing before skydiving and she was working with our EOS program in particular and I'm a very touching story for us when we interviewed her just about the difference that people made dies in order for her to feel like she belongs and that's exactly what we're trying to do with our with our AP students right now so we're lucky to have you here on it last but not least I mean coach HR are physical education department DePaul University grad worked at Burbank School District 111 for four years time he was born in Poland and moved here to United States when he was 7 years old just fourteen of our new hires more for next month so we were like congratulate you and welcome you to our school district I have one question and that's the young lady that has the chickens from what I understand the chickens weigh like a year is that true young chicken so they won't start until December have a good Easter what do you do with the eggs where do lakes that are next for me you so much again congratulations and welcome and for this evening you don't have to stay for the home I guess I should let you do that or whatever you can go if you want and thank you again for the world very not entertaining and fun to think of the right word to see you have so much history somebody positives that you bring me for the school district and so diverse so we want to thank you all again go to 9 aged financial report 9 B June July and August are there any questions bring this down to nine see is not technology report any questions discussion I see that we give out on the use of hot spots for do not have enough income or money you want to explain it a little bit at work apart from T-Mobile data so if we have a family that none of adequate adequate classroom are there ever process that can go to the building location and once approved the issues on the hotspot they can get this school year aspirate it wasn't one everybody knew about it cuz I know they did it I've heard it before a piece of pizza. Okay is there anything else student enrollment report questions on the enrollment I have worked for 300 it's on the adult transition program and Anna and I think because it was pretty small and growing and growing people there so we have jumped but take away and we also put the if you program on there as well which is his 20-something kids here how about we have but we have gone up from last year last year if you work all the other students missing in the covid world and apparently they have returned but it's also a little bit by having a TV program upstairs which is growing and growing and growing Briggs & Stratton the nine is general maintenance maintenance report is there any discussion questions I see we're using the iWave we are here if your messages and viruses and whatever mean offices libraries mechanical I do have one of my house so I was wondering I know somebody in their heating and air conditioning and told me to put it in so I was wondering it works but I guess time will tell it really the results.
