Prerequisite: Placement by language proficiency test scores and teacher recommendation

This course is for native Spanish speakers who have limited literacy skills in Spanish and wish to improve their reading, writing, listening and speaking of the language. Content will focus on sentence structure and writing skills, reading comprehension, and public speaking skills. The curriculum will also include exposure to preAdvanced Placement historical and cultural materials as part of the students’ preparation for continued studies in the Spanish Heritage program sequence.

The focus of Spanish III Heritage is to improve written and oral communication in Spanish, to enhance Spanish reading comprehension and analytical skills, to build on students' historical and literary knowledge of the Hispanic cultures and traditions around the world, and to prepare students to use their bilingual ability in professional settings. Readings will include selections from the Advanced Placement Spanish Literature list. Grammar studies will include work on accents, punctuation, spelling, tense usage and sentence structure in Spanish, in early preparation for the AP Spanish Language exam.
 
SPANISH FOR NATIVE SPEAKERS IV

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Spanish III Heritage; placement by language proficiency test scores and teacher recommendation

The focus of Spanish IV Heritage, Honors is to continue the improvement of written and oral communication skills, reading comprehension and literary analysis, understanding of a variety of Hispanic historical and cultural traditions, and professional-level use of Spanish. Reading selections will include advanced selections from the AP Spanish Literature list. Grammar studies will include the review of Spanish III Heritage concepts and then will continue with the vocabulary development, tense usage and sentence structure appropriate for preparation for the AP Spanish Language exam.
