okay thank you everybody we're going to call this meeting to order thanks for being patient um it is Wednesday May 13th this is the School Board of Education regular meeting we're at the district office and I need a roll call please see here Tom Carroll here Sheila here Candace here and Nora and I'm here to all right we have a quorum so um we need to do the pledge we can all stand please I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it 1 nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all okay we're going to move on to our next uh agenda item which is item number 4 is a resolutions and commendations so Dr Jacob good evening everyone and welcome to the combination part we like to have a big celebration we have a lot of success so feel free to applaud loudly ladies and gentlemen I'd like to begin by inviting Mike badger in the cast of the Richards contest plate of the front please Richard's High School contest play finished fourth place for the Performing of tar Beach written by Tammi Ryan at the ihsa High School drama Festival held on March 28th rabbis High School in Burbank all 5 cast members got Allstate mentions jazella Nia Danielle eludes Messiah Welch Emily Hill and Audrey Walsh additionally Jose Luna ovando and Peyton Ruud got all state lighting mentions we want to say congratulations to Mike Badger Marrin hunt John ebore Ray Graham John Salman and Colin boow and the rest of the talented crew for putting on an incredible show and playing a vital role yet again in the writing of the state tournament Mike without you these activities would suffer not only in this District in the state and you should be congratulated but other than that adopted on this the 13th day of May by 2026 we the school board would like to commend you and your crazy artistic performance and your constant success on the stages of the ihsa congratulations congratulations congratulations congratulations ladies and I have invited Deb Swanson the activities director from Richards up here because she plays a vital role in being sure that the students have access to Quality activities and she herself spends a lot of time helping Mike me everybody involved make arrangements so Deb you are here for the group interp can I please have Kim Sultan and the group interp cast to the front of the room please no I didn't see you there we have Kim salt and Mel Dune Richard's High School drama group interpretation finished in second place at the ihsa drama State final on March 28th at Reavis High School in Burbank however there is an Unwritten addendum they made finals killed it I loved it we waited for those ranks and they came in the exact same 5 ranks which has never happened before in the history of the ihsa that we had to kick in the second tiebreaker it has never been that close but it was an impressive performance of eulogy by Charlie Booker and Ella Road tying for the highest overall score in the competition 5 cast members were named to the All-State cast Sean mallow shabria Riley Jayden Rodriguez caramel and Charlie Schulz we want to congratulate directors Jason malow Kim Sultan moral Dune and Kevin Panko and cast members Sophie or guado Truman zealous cephas Javi malaria d Lynn mcur male pardon me Malachi Stevens and drine Malone so on this the 13th of May 2026 by order of the Board of Education we want to commend you for coming this close to the big trophy with the knowledge Kim that you will bring it back for us next year my friends congratulations on doing the best anyone in this district has done in this activity since 1986 congratulations congratulations congratulations congratulations congratulations congratulations congratulations congratulations congratulations congratulations congratulations congratulations I know many people in the room are like but Mike there's 1 after you gave it to the activity of you yourself directed for 30 years what could possibly warrant going after you reading an award for your favorite activity my friends the answer to that is history Julia gulia fur please come to the front of the school after I'm done reading this feel free to get out your phones and look if anyone else is matching these numbers in coaching today they are not what we are about to acknowledge as an historic commitment historic commitment I want everyone's full attention Richard's High School Varsity softball coach Julie foward collected her 800th career win on April 16th when the bullet when the Bulldogs destroyed Oak Forest 2 tonight she now ranks in Illinois softball history for career coaching victories headed into the 2026 season according to the ihsa records foward began coaching in 1989 and has amassed 14 Regional titles and 2 section championships she was inducted into the Illinois coach association's Hall of Fame in 2007 the Richards Athletics Hall of Fame in 2008 she was also named the Illinois coach association coach of the year in 2023 historic and impressive and today on the 15th of May by order of this schooly school board Julie we want to say thank you for the countless hours you've spent on that diamond working with our young ladies and for the plaques you have and will continue to bring home please thank you so much Mr Jacobson that was outstanding um I do just have a few words I would like to say and I and I hope that it's okay I would like to start with telling you what an honor it is to be here tonight so thank you for recognizing me um I would like to tell you that um our school board since 1989 that I recall and actually started a couple years before that um has always been outstanding and supporting this time supporting uh girls Sports in our district and at Richard's high school and supporting our Richard softball program we've been here through the years and are always so grateful and it's a big honor to be here and I know you all volunteer your time um I've been in education my whole life and I'm grateful for you all so thank you thank you I also want to let you know that I'm fully aware that a coach does not win the softball games and they she certain doesn't win it herself so here tonight I'm I'm grateful to have some of our staff um a lot of the players that actually won that historic number 800 game um and and I would like to recognize them because it's a milestone that is shared it's shared by so many coaches and so many families so many parents uh so many players um the teachers that support us are ground screw that get us on these games when the game might not be played otherwise there's so much that goes into its really is as massive Village um and I'm grateful to be at the helm of that Village and for all of you who who enable me to do my job as best of my ability and hopefully enable all of you because it is a machine that needs all the parts to work well so I do have here tonight um um some of our staff so I will tell you that we have 2 2 members 4 members of our staff that want to Richard's high school that have returned to coach some of them could be here tonight some of them could not and they are very jealous of the rest of you so with us tonight is Emily wattsel if you would stand and that actually is the 1 that could make it right now because another 1 is doing something else for her job and she's going to try to fly in here Megan wit is it could not be here today she teaches social studies at Richard's high school so Saratoga and also here and is doing another activity for her school and Danielle kappel also played here and they're all on staff back with us coaching uh because they understand what it means to give back and they have a lot to share um also that didn't go to Richards but are equally important we have Angela Williams who so we are great great team um and a coaching staff this year that I think is second to none and I'm very proud of all of you so thank you so much we do have the team behind you that will stand if you could the reason the team that really did beat Oak Forest it was a tough game Emily Navaro um Elena Eliana power Leah Watson Leilani Contreras Abigail liter Michelle Hamad Sophie shaller brener shaivas Nia Alvin Kela jiggetts Emily shabas Abby wit Leila cruise and Piper Eagan open Supreme number 800 forever so I thank you all um I would I'm sorry there's 1 more 1 more thing I do want to say I would really really like to give a special thanks to Alum and a coach and administrator Lisa Krueger uh Brian wujek Jacobs here he is uh uh Dr Linda our principal Tim is here tonight Tim and of course Josh Barron for all of your support all these years um it is not easy for women in sports um and our district makes it happen we know the value of raising being strong leaders and I cannot think of a better classroom to teach them all of those characteristics I just needed then on a sports arena did I miss somebody okay so thank you so at this time it's fine if you want to stay we'd love to have you take some beautiful pictures and then there were not exactly okay we are going to move on to agenda item number 5 which is comments from the public related to meeting agenda items does anyone from the public nobody um do any board members have any comment at this time okay we're gonna move on um item number 7 is approval of the consent that agenda items uh 7 a is approval of the minutes regular board meeting April 15th 2026 closed board meeting April 15th 2026 and the committee of the whole meeting and April 15th 2026 8A is press pound second reading 10 a is appointment of Mike Stillman is hearing officer for the calendar year 26 uh 10B request to update alacarte menu pricing for fiscal year 2627 request to uh 10c I'm request uh to approve the chsd 218 strategic plan and the Consolidated District plan for fiscal year 2026 2027 item 11 is approval of expenditures chsd218 payment of bills and Max payables and item number 12 is recommendations of the superintendent concerning staff Personnel Personnel list number 20265 I need a motion to bring it to the floor so moved is there anything that anybody wants to remove from the consent agenda right now okay all right we can take it to a vote then please Steve yes Carol yes Nora yes Candace hi Sheila okay motion carried um uh 8A is I'm sorry item number 8 is old business and oh no we already did that 1 I'm sorry um that was on the consent agenda uh item number 9 is reports to the superintendent 98 is the technology update does anybody have any questions 9 B the student enrollment report any questions uh 9 C is the general general maintenance report anybody have any questions about that uh 9 D is the foyer requests that just get longer and not come on it's been a good month uh anybody any questions uh 9e is the business manager update anybody have any questions for Tina couldn't be organized because she's a new grandma oh she is okay third time right his daughter just had a grandson oh okay oh well congratulations to Tina um 9f Safety and Security report does anybody have any questions I'm sorry what what I didn't hear you I have just the Safety and Security report any questions 9 G is the construction projects update any questions or any a lot of great stuff going on coming along and abandoned Coral beautiful you are almost there so I could meet you there yeah it's really really nice so we'll have to get over there maybe in June or something we were thinking maybe have the meeting there so we can see it uh 9 G is oh no um I'm sorry 9 H is committee reports by board members does anybody have a committee report for tonight we haven't had any meetings I don't think so okay we are going to and to uh 10 new business and we just right now we have 10 D which is proposal of student Code of Conduct Handbook rights and responsibilities for 2026 2027 this is just the first reading so we're not voting on this tonight correct know we're just trying to stay stay uh you know in line with what's going on at the state level and there is some potential changes with technology with cell phones and apple watches and the the um the on the on the glasses and all those things so you know I feel like we're pretty much in line with what the state's going to possibly require anyhow um but uh we're we're staying ahead of it okay so we'll revisit this in okay um 10e is the resolution authorizing intervention and all proceedings before state of Illinois property tax appeal board this is an action item so I need a motion please second okay um does anybody have any questions or no okay can we um take that to a vote please Steve yes Carol yes Nora yes Candace I Sheila okay motion carried uh 10f is recommendation to update athletic and activities fundraising this is an action item can I have a motion please I'm sorry second okay um and we talked about this everyone saw the this will be new house so it'll be a change we're going to we're going to meet with Tony's going to meet with Athletics and activities and uh in August and explain it and we're trying not to cross the fund so much with the districts and we're 1 of few districts around that uh don't have so um Dr Baron if I might um add something to it I did bring up that I think it might be a better idea to bring this to the um directors to bring out for August only because a lot of these activities and sports have their first at least their you know first semester plans they're already talking about what they're doing yep first half of the year so you know it might just cause a little bit more problems if we bring it to them too late so I don't know when you're are the are the directors here in the Summer where you can meet with them or they they're in some days I mean what 5 days before 5 uh beginning of year so um we might be able pull it off 1 more week of school left but um you know not with zooms and things like that we can get creative but yeah we can get we get in front of them okay I'll we'll talk to the principals and do that but we'll also do it again in August I think the more but just so they kind of have a heads up of what's going on okay sounds good anything else okay can we take this to a vote please Steve yes Carol yes Nora yes Candace and Sheila yes okay motion carried um all right item number 13 is a closed session and we do need to go into closed session so can I uh have a motion to go into closed made a motion second yeah okay all right all in favor I okay and he knows okay who do we need for closed session like everyone just know um just uh just carry and and you guys tell me you can stick around Carrie Carrie Tony Jen yeah and just for the record oh I'm sorry okay the reasons why okay and we are going into closed for the discussion on a discussion on appointment appointment compensation to discipline performance and or dismissal of specific employees or legal council discussion and pending or probable litigation affecting or on behalf of the public body discussion and student disciplinary case and discussion on the purchase and or lease of Real Estate
