The JROTC program is an academic course of instruction which combines the advantage of military leadership training with that of secondary education. JROTC consists of non-combat training and does not obligate a participating student to military service after high school graduation. The objectives of the course are to develop informed and responsible citizens and leadership skills. Instruction in leadership tenets, physical fitness, health, drill and ceremonies, and military organization are taught as a means to develop leadership qualities.

 

Students enrolled in JROTC may have their Physical Education requirement waived. For further information on PE waivers, see the PE section

 


Eisenhower High School (Marine Corps JROTC)

 

The Marine Corps JROTC program consists of 3 elements – Marine Corps History, Leadership Education and Physical Fitness. Physical Fitness is a recurring element which is consistent from year to year. Marine Corps History and Leadership Education will vary by year as follows:

 

Year 1: Introduction to MCJROTC, Leadership Defined, Ethics, Morals, Values, Marine Corps Traditions

Year 2*: Leadership Principles, Purpose of Non Commissioned Officers, Use of the Military Map

Year 3*: Leadership Styles, Importance of Inspections, Role of the Officer, Career Opportunities

Year 4: Supervising Inspections, Resolving conflicts, Equal Opportunity, Mentor/Mentee Relationships

 

Fraternization and MCJROTC Rules and Regulations are yearly requirements for all LE levels.

 

*Year 3 is offered in 2016-17. Year 2 is offered in 2017-18.

 

Shepard High School (Air Force JROTC) 

 

The Air Force JROTC program consists of 3 elements – Aerospace Science (AS), Leadership Education (LE), and Wellness.  Wellness is a recurring element which will be consistent from one year to the next.  AS and LE curriculum will vary by year as follows:

 

Year 1:  Journey into Aviation History (AS), Traditions, Wellness, and Foundations of Citizenship (LE)

Year 2*:  Cultural Studies (AS), Communication, Awareness and Leadership (LE)

Year 3*:  Exploration of Space (AS), Life Skills and Career Opportunities (LE)

Year 4: Leading and Managing the Cadet Corps (AS), Principles of Management (LE)

 

*Year 3 is offered in 2016-17. Year 2 is offered in 2017-18.

 

Richards High School (Navy JROTC) 

 

The Navy JROTC program consists of 3 elements – Naval Science (NS), Leadership Education (LE), and Wellness/Physical Fitness.  Wellness/Physical Fitness is a recurring element which will be consistent from one year to the next.  NS and LE curriculum will vary by year as follows:

 

Year 1:  Introduction to Navy JROTC (NS-1), Time Management, Leadership Fundamentals, Citizenship, Character and Navy Traditions (LE)

Year 2*:  U. S. Naval History, Oceanography, Meteorology or Astronomy (NS-2), Leadership Review (LE)

Year 3*:  Naval Knowledge and Naval Skills (NS-3), Career Opportunities, SAT preparation, Advanced Leadership (LE)

Year 4: Cultural Studies/Global Awareness (NS-4), Leadership Laboratory (4th year cadets experience leading and managing the NJROTC unit) (LE)
